A grita is a traditional Ayurvedic form of administration in which ghee (butter fat) is enriched with a special herbal substance. For Classic Ayurveda Gritas, only organic ghee made from hay butter is used. Triphala ghee can be used internally and externally.
Triphala, also known as the three fruits, is considered the most important nutritional supplement and the most important rasayana in Ayurveda. It consists of equal parts of the three fruits Amla (Indian gooseberry), Haritaki (myrobalan) and Bibhitaki (green myrobalan). Amla primarily calms Pitta, Haritaki primarily harmonizes Vata and Bibhitaki primarily calms Kapha. The combination of the three fruits balances all doshas.
