biodegradation
Carnauba wax and beeswax are natural waxes that are biodegradable. Soap made from organic olive oil, like all vegetable soaps, has the special feature compared to all other detergents that it combines with the lime that is always present in wastewater immediately after use to form lime soap, thereby neutralizing its surface-active effect on aquatic organisms (primary degradation). The lime soap is then quickly broken down 100% by microorganisms into carbon dioxide and water (secondary degradation). During the production process for sugar surfactants, parts of starch, sugar and fat are removed from the vegetable raw materials, but their natural structure is completely preserved. It is therefore relatively easy for the microorganisms to break down these surfactants 100% completely. According to the OECD, soap and sugar surfactants are considered to be easily biodegradable.
